There’s Nothing to Do in Kuwait!

There’s nothing to do in Kuwait! Really? I beg to differ.

I have heard this statement countless times during the past two years. With online learning and everything that has happened, many have struggled with finding activities and enjoyable tasks to do outside; in the fresh air and sunshine. This article intends to give an insight into the many outside activities that can be done in Kuwait to keep you fit and active. I have certainly tried some of them and can’t recommend them highly enough!

Watersports

Wakeboarding:

Wakeboarding is a sport where one rides on a board whilst being pulled along by a motorboat or cable. If wakeboarding is something that interests you, there is an amazing cable park located at Green Island, Kuwait City. This cable park is open to all abilities, so don’t worry if this is your first time. The staff there will guide and instruct you on the basics, and once you’re more confident, they will help you through any tricks you may want to learn. All equipment is available at the park, so if this is something that sparks your interest, visit their website now!

Sailing:

Is wakeboarding not for you but you still want to learn a new watersport? Sailing might just be perfect. Kuwait Sailing School is located at the Seashell Resort, Julaia, and offers sailing tasters – to see if you enjoy the feeling. If satisfied, you may want to enroll in a full Royal Yacht Association (RYA) sailing course. This is a great skill to learn and can keep you out in the sunshine for hours. Visit the website kwtsailing.com to view the courses offered at the school.

Windsurfing:

Kuwait Sailing School additionally offers introductory lessons for windsurfing every weekend. This can be a pleasant activity to do on your own or with a couple of friends. Either way, it is an excellent opportunity to get outside and catch some rays.

Paddleboarding:

Finally, Kuwait Sailing School offers the opportunity to rent out Stand Up Paddleboards (SUP’s) and kayaks. Although no lessons are available for this, rentals can be made all week and sunset paddling is a regular occurrence. Whether you go during the day or during the sunset hour; whether you go by yourself or with friends, this is a wonderful chance to relax and enjoy the delights presented by the beach.

Scuba Diving:

There are plenty of places that offer scuba diving courses with various affiliations in Kuwait. You can do a try-dive at a swimming pool before signing up to do an Open Water scuba course. Some companies that train novice divers are: The Palms, Bubbles diving, and Dive Caroline divers.

Now, if water sports do not interest you, do not worry, there are plenty more things you can do on land!

Land activities

GoKarting:

GoKarting is a great way to let out your competitive side, something that is extremely difficult with the absence of sports teams and other competitions within school. It is great fun to do with both friends and family! Kuwait has numerous go-karting tracks located mostly in Kuwait City. If this is something that intrigues you, go and book a spot now!!

Archery:

Archery is a great sport to try if you fancy doing something a little different. Kuwait Shooting Range offers archery lessons that you can enrol for, however, if you want to have a go for some fun, you can turn up and have a single lesson with an instructor.

Walking/running:

If you are more interested in staying fit by running or walking, but haven’t been able to find a race due to Covid, check out the website https://suffix.events/. This provides many possibilities to race (running of differing distances, obstacle courses, and even a fitness festival) that can be done virtually, over a certain period of time, or physically in person – this differs depending on the race that interests you. Running and walking are great ways to clear your head, and with exams and other stress from external situations, exercise is crucial to keep the body healthy.

Kuwait’s walking tracks:

If running or walking competitively is not for you, there are plenty of walking and running tracks that can be used so that you are walking with others in a safe and secure environment. Al Shaheed Park and Mishref walking tracks are two such places. The trees and flowers make the surrounding area an enjoyable place to spend time and feel at one with nature.

The activities I have listed above are just the tip of the iceberg. There are always small events going on all over Kuwait; recently, I went to a pop-up drive-in movie theatre in Bnaider. It was a fantastic experience, and one which I had never done before.

I haven’t left Kuwait for two years due to COVID, but can honestly say I have had a great time being here! I have taken part in activities and visited places that I would never have given a go or seen, had I travelled abroad. There’s “nothing to do in Kuwait”? Actually, there are lots of things to do in Kuwait!
