All Too Well: A Review

Taylor Swift is one of the most well-known and influential musicians of this decade, if not all time. Recently there has been heavy media attention surrounding the outstanding job she has done on her re-recordings of albums, as well as the 10-minute version of “All Too Well”.

On November 10th, 2021, she posted the 10-minute version of her song “All Too Well” which featured Sadie Sink as well as Dylan O’Brien, who played their respective roles as Taylor and Jake Gyllenhaal. She also performed at the screening of the song at its film premiere, as well as performing on Saturday Night Live the day after that. There has been a shower of praise for the song from both fans and critics, who were in awe of its lyrics and meaning.

As for some history, Taylor has been re-recording some of her old songs and albums so she can have full ownership rights over her music. All Too Well was originally written for her album “Red” in 2012 and details her relationship with the actor Jake Gyllenhaal; they dated while she was 20 years old and Jake was 29, for 3 months, but the relationship came to an end around January 2011. The song has broken the record for the longest song to take the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and even beat the previous record by a long shot; passing American Pie by Don McLean, which is 8 minutes and 37 seconds long. She also broke another record due to her album “Red (Taylor’s version)” as it was said to be a collection of the “most simultaneous US Hot 100 new entries by a female”, with 26 tracks in the Guinness World Records.

At around the same time as the song’s release, Starbucks also announced a collaboration with Taylor and made it so you could buy a “Taylor Latte” or a “Taylor’s version” of a caramel latte, which at the time of this article is sadly no longer available. However, if you are curious about what it would taste like, the drink consists of a grande nonfat caramel latte.

As a whole, Swift’s impressive lyrics and metaphors are really what ties the song together, in my opinion. The sheer fact that you can barely tell the entire song is 10 minutes due to how wonderfully put together it is, is something truly fantastic. I urge you to watch the video if you haven’t already – you will not regret it!
