Primary Sports Day 2020

On Tuesday 11th of February, NES primary held their annual sports day. The day was chaotic and also very fun for both adults and children. This day happens because NES believes that exercising  is a huge part of staying healthy.

Read on to find out if Ikaros won again or if Dilmun got revenge and placed higher in the game.

On Tuesday last week, all junior students came to school with their house-coloured t-shirts, green for Tylos, blue for Dilmun, red for Gerrha and yellow for Ikaros. In the past Junior sports day, Ikaros got first with Tylos being the runner up, Gerrha getting third place and Dilmun placing last. This was quite a shock to see Tylos place this high for everyone, but Ikarous winning was no big deal. Back to the day, all the classes from Year 3 to Year 6 and their t-shirts on, had their energy up and were all ready to start Sports day 2020. I interviewed Jumana El Charif in 6.3, who said,

“In the morning I was energetic but when I came back, I was beaten down.’

All of the 20 buses took every single child  to the stadium. By 9:45, everyone was at the stadium and everyone was waiting for sports day 2020 to start. Ms Cockerill, the head of primary PE, then gave us a speech about all the activities throughout the day and by about 10, everyone was in their sections and ready to start the annual sports day. Throughout the day, we rotated between many different activities such as javelin, shot-put, high jump, tug of war and running. These activities are also included in the senior sports day.

Finally, we had our lunch break as we anticipated what was to come. In the afternoon, the fastest runners were picked to run. This part of the day was stressful, exciting and full of tension. When the runners were called, and everyone had settled down, the race began. It was competitive and quite fast. In the end, the pe department got ready to announce the results:

The winners for Sports day 2020 were:

1- Dilmun

2- Ikarus

3- Gerrha

4- Tylos

And, of course, everyone cheered when the results were revealed. This sports day was a special sports day for some of us, such as the Year 6’s, and for some of the teachers too. Sports day is, overall, a fun, lively and enjoyable day for everyone.
