TED: Club of the month

TED is a media organisation that posts educational, inspirational and informative videos, usually in the form of brief, powerful talks online for free and follows the slogan “ideas worth spreading”.  TED stands for ‘Technology, Entertainment, and Design’- and their talks cover a plethora of topics from science to business and even global issues. Thus, we were stirred to set up our very own TED club at NES!

The person in charge of the TED-Ed club is sixth-form student Mohadeseh Arefanian, who has been inspired by TED talks ever since she was as young as 12. This club has been awarded ‘Club of the Month’ of February because it allows every student to explore their own, original ideas, develop them and share them with the world. Members especially enjoy group activities in this club because they like getting together and exploring innovative, new ideas. The goal of the club is to have each member successfully deliver and film their TED talk, which will be uploaded on YouTube for the whole world to see.

16 of the club’s participants have reached the final stage, where the students are to deliver their TED talks onstage to a live audience and to the world. These members are currently rehearsing their TED talks- a feat that would normally take official speakers in New York up to a year- in only a couple of weeks with the help of Mohadeseh, who is organizing the upcoming event. This event took place on the 8th of April in the mousetrap theatre .

Mohadeseh would like to thank Mr. Smith and all the teachers who have been supporting them from the start as well as the diligent and cooperative members of the NES TED club. We hope you can attend their event as the coming together of the NES community to support each other and share their ideas with the world is definitely an idea worth spreading!
