Top 10 Movie Soundtracks:

  1. Lord of the Rings (LOTR)

The LOTR soundtrack truly strengthens and blends in with the whole movie to greater portray the fantasy world that Tolkien created. Furthermore, the soundtrack has hours of original pieces which can be enjoyed without the movie. Finally, the Lord of The Rings is one of the most successful cinematic creations in history as it won countless awards ranging from BAFTAs to Oscars and Emmys.

2. Harry Potter

The Harry Potter soundtrack is one of the largest movie soundtracks to date. With legendary composers such as John Williams composing for it the whole Harry Potter series has beautiful pieces that make the movie much better.

3. The Dark Knight trilogy

With Christopher Nolan directing and Hans Zimmer composing, the Dark Knight trilogy has music which truly amplifies the action and emotion throughout the movie. For those that do not enjoy superhero movies the Batman trilogy by Christopher Nolan still has a great cinematic experience with great help from its music.

4. Star Wars

The great John Williams truly made a magical score for Star Wars that is extremely diverse with slow and emotional pieces such as Binary Sunset and very fast-paced pieces such as Duel of the Fates.

5. Indiana Jones

The music for Indiana Jones really brings the adventurous spirit of the movie to life. The music also helps in clarifying and maintaining the tempo of the movie with slow pieces as well as more fast-paced pieces for different scenes.

6. Interstellar

Another masterpiece by the Hans Zimmer + Christopher Nolan duo. Hans Zimmer’s utilisation of a large church Organ for this movie made the music really blend with the cinematography. Having an instrument that breathes and has to control its breathing only added to the feeling of space with oxygen and air being in short supply.

7. The Last Samurai

Composed by Hans Zimmer the score for The Last Samurai truly helps transport the viewer into 19th century Japan. The pieces themselves are truly beautiful and can be listened to without the movie but if you listen to some of the pieces while watching the scenes they are composed for you could find yourself in tears.

8. Inception

The music in the movie Inception is fairly edgy/trippy which goes really well with the movie’s overall theme. Composed by the almighty Hans Zimmer it certainly helps create a great atmosphere in the movie and improves the overall cinematic experience. There are pieces in this movie which you will have heard before in Youtube Videos and/or documentaries which goes a long way to show how impressive the soundtrack is.

9. Pirates of the Caribbean (POTC)

The POTC franchise has some great scores and pieces which will definitely get stick in your head. The pieces themselves are exceptional but the overall feeling of the score is not well-balanced and sometimes it feels like you are watching a scene with good music in the background rather than having music amplify the scene.

10. Last of the Mohicans

This score is really powerful and is quite nice to listen to if you are studying or just lazing about. If you do listen to the soundtrack it will probably have parts that stick in your head. However, the score is not that diverse and lacks the depth of most other scores in this category.
