F.R.I.E.N.D.S is an American television series created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, which aired from September 22th 1994, to May 6th 2004, lasting ten seasons. Friends is a show about six friends in New York as they navigate their way through life and learn to grow as they approach their 30s. A lot of people wonder why so many people love watching Friends and are so obsessed with it.
Well, here’s why:
- No one can be happy if they’re fighting with a friend in their inner circle, especially when that friend means the WORLD to them. You can always relate to how much these six individual characters care about each other, even if they drive each other crazy sometimes.
- Okay- let’s be honest here, everyone has humiliated themselves at least once in their life. People love watching the Friends characters totally embarrass themselves because it’s just so hilarious and it makes them feel a lot better, like when Phoebe gave Monica the worst haircut ever, or when Ross broke out the bagpipes.
- Friends is also an illustration of how life will- at times- surprise you, and that’s why you have to keep on going and keep believing that great things will come your way, even if it doesn’t seem like it at all. For example, who knew that Rachel would go from being a spoiled brat to working in fashion in NYC?
- Thankfully, this show is extremely hilarious and reminds you to keep laughing and to live your best life ever. It teaches us that you can’t afford surrounding yourself with super negative people who tend to never laugh or even crack a joke, because that’s just not going to get you anywhere in life.
MONICA AND ROSS GELLER:
Monica is Ross’s younger sister and and the daughter of Jack and Judy Geller. High school was a difficult time for Monica as she gained a lot of weight (255 pounds). She was determined to lose all her extra weight and she accomplished this goal by Thanksgiving 1988. She also had a best friend since her childhood, Rachel Greene. Monica is a kind and caring character. She is mostly known for her obsessive cleanliness, bossy and competitive nature. She hates losing in competitions. Ross Geller is considered to be the most intelligent member of the group and is known for his goofy as well as his lovable behaviour. He is a paleontology professor and is pretty obsessed with anything that has to do with dinosaurs. He has a son named Ben and a daughter named Emma.
RACHEL GREENE:
Rachel Karen Greene is the daughter of Leonard and Sandra Greene. She has two siblings, Jill and Amy. The three siblings had a rather spoiled childhood. Rachel met Monica at a young age, and they have been best friends ever since. Rachel was originally a ‘mean girl’ in high school, then got a job as a waitress at Central Park but was careless, would get all her orders wrong and usually took long breaks just to sit and talk with her friends. In the third season, she quits her job as a waitress to pursue a career in fashion which, after a few ups and downs, turned out to be a success. Rachel had a daughter named Emma in the endings of Season 8. Rachel grows increasingly mature during every season in the show, and by the remaining few seasons, she no longer has a ‘spoiled nature’.
CHANDLER BING:
Chandler Bing is the son of Nora and Charles Bing. He is an only child with divorced parents, who announced their divorce over their Thanksgiving dinner when he was only nine years old. This caused him to refuse to celebrate Thanksgiving in his adulthood. He went to an all-boys high school when he was younger. Chandler’s best friend is Joey Tribianni, who was his roommate. Chandler has a very good sense of humor and is normally sarcastic, though he uses his sarcasm as a defence mechanism. Chandler gets married to Monica at the end of season 7.
JOEY TRIBIANNI:
Joey Tribianni is an Italian-American struggling actor who lived in New York City with Chandler Bing. He comes from an Italian-American family of eight children. His siblings are Mary Therese, Mary Angela, Dina, Gina, Tina, Veronica and Cookie- and is the only male between his siblings. Joey is very loyal, caring and protective of his friends. He enjoys playing video games and foosball, and loves sandwiches and pizza. Everyone who knows Joey knows that ‘Joey doesn’t share food!’ As a struggling actor, he constantly looks for auditions. He played the main part (Dr. Drake Ramoray), a neurosurgeon, in the show ‘Days of our Lives’, which turned out to be a huge success.
PHOEBE BUFFAY:
Phoebe Buffay is the daughter of Frank and Lily Buffay. She has a twin sister named Ursuala. Phoebe grew up living on the streets but can speak many languages, such as French and Italian. She is a masseuse and musician who sings at Central Park. Phoebe is mostly known for her unusual and strange behavior, such as when she changed her name to Princess Consuela Banana-Hammock. She is best friends with Monica, Rachel, Ross, Chandler and Joey. Phoebe meets a guy named Mike and they end up getting married in the tenth season.
Some people may not like F.R.I.E.N.D.S as they think that it’s not that funny or that it’s not that realistic. Some don’t even like it because of the characters’ personalities.
In my opinion, F.R.I.E.N.D.S is an amazing show that can make you laugh and cry; to me, it’s something you just can’t get enough of. People mostly love it because it teaches you to value your friends and stick together no matter what. It proves that everyone is perfect in their own way and that your friends can be extremely different from you and that that’s okay.
Overall, F.R.I.E.N.D.S really proves that your friends are your family. It teaches you that no matter what you go through, they’re always there for you.
