The Monster Within Me: A Poem

Rocks tied to my feet,

Water up to my hair,

I’m drowning in deep sleep,

Wondering if it’s fair.

The feeling of being encased spreads,

Fear deepens as confusion controls me,

Swollen eyes, heavy breath and pounding head,

Body aching; My soul insists to be free.

My heart is now a black hole,

Swallowing everything and everyone around me,

For now I am on my own,

I have been stolen from, don’t you agree?

The pain is like a wave crashing through me,

What I am feeling is something we mustn’t deny,

I must save myself from finding my emotional key,

What I found was that the true monster was I.
