Mary Poppins Returns: Movie Review

“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” is the perfect word to describe this movie.

Mary Poppins Returns was released on the 27th of December, 2018 in Kuwait.

It may be nothing compared to the original movie but it was an incredible reproduction of the story nonetheless! Directed by Rob Marshall, the main actors were Emily Blunt, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer and Dick Van Dyke.

The story revolves around an adult with three children and bank-teller Michael Banks, who learns that he will lose his house in five days if he fails to pay back a loan. His only hope is to find the missing certificate that shows proof of the valuable shares that his father left him years earlier. Hunting for the certificate, Michael and his sister receive the surprise of a lifetime when Mary Poppins -the beloved nanny from their childhood- arrives to save the day and take the Banks family on a thrilling, magical adventure.

Our favorite thing about the first movie was the outstanding, irreplaceable actors that made the movie impossible to accept as fiction. Our favorite thing about this new movie, however,  are the transitions between every scene that left everyone in shock. And it is this film’s exhilarating plot and family-friendliness that make it a highly recommended movie for a family’s night in.

One of the moral lessons wonderfully illustrated in this film is the fact that actions have consequences. The foundation of this film was laid on the shared human experience of just how messy life can get at times, which is why Mary Poppins’ gospel is that when it does, it is our responsibility to clean up what we can of the mess and not neglect ourselves in hopelessness and despair, bearing in mind that everything we do has an impact on others and that what goes around comes around.
