Agony Aunt is back to the rescue!

Hi, I am very troubled with the extreme bias that happens around our school all the time.
This is especially true about sports. People who have been on the team for a year or two always get on the team on the try-outs. There is never anyone new on the team. They also get put into the higher sets for PE simply because they are “athletic”. I really feel like this is a problem because it brings the people down in the “lower set” quite a lot and just gives a huge confidence boost to the people in “higher set”.
And yes, I understand that they are probably better than the people in the “lower set” at sports but that does not mean they should have to feel bad about it. NES is supposed to be a place where everyone feels equal. Uniforms are supposed to be only the START of it, not the END. I don’t know what to do about this because I feel like either the teachers need to find a way to decrease this feeling or perhaps give a choice to people to not play PE at all.

Hello Dearie!

Slow down a little, will you? I am still in the daze of the long summer-y days at the Bahamas. So, I see you don’t like the way some people are treated and I agree with you. No one should feel that way.

On my trip to the Bahamas, I saw this fish that was cornered by all these prettier looking fish and I felt awful for that fish. It should have been given a choice to be put into a different tank if it’s going to spend all its life imprisoned in a glass tank. Note: I am not implying that school is prison;) Or am I?

Anyways, if you understood that little anecdote of mine, good for you. Now, about not wanting to play PE or coming up with a different system is a little far-fetched. Not only because it would be too hard to turn the system around overnight but also because what you are saying can also be applied at an intellectual level as well.

I know you can’t understand what I’m saying because I used a few big words- it’s a bad habit I picked up from this posh British woman I met in the Bahamas.

Let me backtrack a little. You said people feel out of their depth because they don’t feel as good as the others or as included, but honey, look around you. Everyone is that ugly fish in the tank in some way or the other. Some people are able to get straight A’s and are easily able to get into point one each time. But, but, but, there are also some people who are not able to move up forms because they just haven’t been able to score as high. That doesn’t mean we give them another choice instead of studying. I feel awful to say that’s just not how it works and your future will hold many things you wish you didn’t have to do. School just prepares you for it.

But listen hon, if you really feel that bad about it, I would seriously recommend talking to an authority figure to help you out.

Now enough talking, I gtg, ttyl. (My niece taught me that!). Good luck sweetie!
