Captain Marvel is a thrilling film about Carol Danvers, a former officer in the United States Air Force, becoming the most powerful Avenger. The Avengers are a fictional team of superheroes created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby.
The amazing actor who perfectly portrayed this character was the one and only Brie Larson, starring alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Lashana Lynch (Nick Fury and Maria Rambeau).
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the movie was released on February 27, 2019 and was the sixth biggest worldwide film opening since 2002.
The empowerment of women was a subtle yet impactful theme in the film, personified by Carol’s actions throughout the film clashing with the gender norms. Carol’s strength is established in the very beginning of the film when we’re introduced to her powers in a training session. There is no love interest, and other than her male coach (who didn’t really help with anything), she never needed someone else to help her and she was very capable and independent.
This movie left me amazed with its action fight scenes and thrilling turns of events, *SPOILER ALERT* like when we realise that the skrulls (Aliens who can imitate others appearance) are the ‘good guys’- and that scientist Mar Vel’s side are the antagonists!
Captain Marvel has proven to be more than just a superhero film that cannot be missed; it was a clever way to introduce the latest avenger who might be able to defeat Thanos in Avengers: End Game. I highly recommend the movie, and honestly, all I want to do is re-watch it again and again!
