The beach clean-up is an event where volunteering students clean the beach by collecting trash in large bin bags. I know it might sound a little monotonous but we always end up with a memorable day.
When we first arrived at the beach, my companions and I rushed to a food stall and grabbed a cool drink. The gleaming sun cast its rays onto the sea that glowed and glistened like the sun’s own mirror. The heat was scathing.
Next, we put on rubber gloves, grabbed a few bin bags and hit the sand. It was appalling to see the destruction that the litter has inflicted upon the beautiful beach because of people’s carelessness. It was especially dreadful to witness scaly insects hopping about and gobbling bits of plastic.
We tried to clear up as much garbage as we could before heading back. It was delightful as well as satisfying to help the beach return to its original, pristine state for the local habitat to healthily thrive in- and for people to enjoy. The stunning and magnificent views of the Arabian sea really should be better cared for by its people.
We also had a guide who told us about Kuwait’s natural ecosystem and how the increasing plastic pollution was killing aquatic creatures by asphyxiation. I would like to encourage everyone to contribute to saving Mother Nature rather than destroying and ruining our beloved planet, and the beach cleanup is a great place to start! After experiencing this beach clean up event, I will never miss an opportunity to go again! It was one of the best experiences I have ever had and would definitely do it again.
