The debate over pineapple on pizza is often treated as a silly meme, but I personally feel that it is a disgrace to the best snack ever! Imagine waiting for a perfectly delicious, hot, and cheesy pizza, but getting soggy and wet fruit cut up on it instead. Now, that is what I call a nightmare.
You won’t believe this; I actually love pineapple on desserts, but it does not belong on savoury meals. To be honest, it is confusing and questionable: “Am I having a savoury meal or a dessert?” Pizza is supposed to be a comforting savoury meal, but the second those sugary yellow chunks hit the tangy sauce, they take over everything and turn your dinner into a wet, juicy, and confusing dessert. People should preserve traditional flavours and not experiment too much with amazing snacks that are loved by all. It’s not just about being a hater; it’s about respecting the crust and keeping the fruit salad where it belongs, far away from the pepperoni.
I understand the concept of ‘sweet and savoury’ and it does make sense sometimes, but not with everything. For example, sweet chilli sauce and honey chilli potatoes are out of this world because they go together and complement each other, but it isn’t the same with pineapple on pizza; after the pineapple is heated, it releases its juices that warm up and result in a soggy crust, making the pizza less enjoyable. I am not Italian but if I was this would be a disgrace to Italian culture!
Most people either hate or love pineapple on pizza. I can confidently say that I am one of the haters. While everyone is free to eat what they want, I think that some things just aren’t meant to mix, and warm, sugary pineapple on a salty crust is one of them. Let’s do the right thing and keep the fruit for dessert and the pizza for dinner.
