The History of Basketball

Today I will discuss Basketball, its history and how the sport has changed over the years.

Basketball started with its invention in 1891 by a man who’s name was James Naismith, who graduated from Springfield College in Massachusetts, the Canadian sport started out as a less injury-prone alternative to  football. Around a few decades later, it became a popular sport in the USA (United States of America).

The beginners were playing basketball indoors because they couldn’t control the ball and it was easier for the beginners to play in an indoor court because the surface was smooth which meant they could play better.

The pros at the time played basketball outdoors because the first professional league was the National Basketball League (NBL), in 1898. The game differed from the college game in that a chicken-wire cage typically surrounded the court, to separate players from often hostile fans.

Did you know that LeBron James is the King of basketball and has won many trophies and 4 NBA championships league? And did you know Dantley who scored in 1980-81?

What  about the year that dunking became allowed in the NBA?

You were only allowed to dunk in 1976. In the NBA in 1976 Arther Erhat filed a patent for ‘’a rim that had immediately returned to its original position,’ making dunking safe for the first time by significantly reducing the shattering of backboards.
