The northern lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are one of the natural wonders of the world. They can be seen from aeroplanes and even outer space. They are ribbons of lights across earth’s southern and northern poles. These lights are caused by magnetic storms that have been triggered by solar activities.
Norway skies have some of the darkest skies in Europe, making your chance of seeing the Northern Lights very high. They can also be seen in Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Russia.
The lights are visible under clear skies but the best months to go see them are from Late August to mid-April and the best month to see them is January.
The lights can be seen just after sunset and before sunrise but they can also be seen between 9pm and 2am and the best time to see them being 11pm to midnight as that is when the best sightings occur.
The primary colours of the Northern Lights are green, red, and purple, though other colours like pink, blue, and yellow can also occasionally appear. Most Northern Lights are green and a hint of pink making them the most common colours and blue and red being the rarest colours.
