What is the Nes Engineering Society?
It is a school program that aims to promote the use of engineering concepts and how to implement them in real-life problems. For example, you know how a parachute works, right? The engineering program wants to know how you would use that in a real-life situation. In this case, how could you apply real-life concepts to prevent an egg from cracking after being dropped?
Previous Events
The competition that was conducted on Thursday the 17th of October was to see what you could build to avoid an egg from cracking after being dropped. The teams that attended this competition were judged on the least amount of breakage to the egg and the most efficient structure, with price being an important factor.
Why did students choose to join this programme?
We asked students why they joined this program and this is what they said: most said that they had more freedom to change careers with a useful degree, it is socially acceptable and impressive for both men and women. Not only that, but through the NESENG program students can learn all about the different types of engineering and experiment to know what kind they want to pursue. Through this program, students can gain experience by participating in competitions and considering how limited it is in Kuwait, it is much harder to find programs like this compared to other countries abroad (spoken from an international student). And with engineering being one of the highest paying majors, money is something that students consider.
