Although separated by borders, the Arab community is joined by music and literature. The instrument which is most intriguing to me is the Oud; it can be built with slight changes to fit the countries’ history, yet still unite all Arabs. From the Iraqi oud to the Egyptian oud, the music written for each specific oud is nothing short of captivating. Eleven strings and more than five thousand years, and the Oud still remains – in my opinion – a proud invention of Arabs.
“A bridge between cultures, a testament to human creativity, and a significant actor in developing various types of music.” – MDLBeast History of Oud Article.
