What is “good education”?
Education is a comprehensive process involving knowledge, skills, morals, values, and habits. It is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about applying it to daily life scenarios. The process is complete only when the acquired knowledge is put to good use, demonstrating the importance of applying knowledge effectively.
Quality education and skill development are crucial for a healthy society. Strong education systems require trained and empathetic teachers who teach about different cultures, religions, communities, and economic and social standards. However, with technology advancements, teachers have been taken for granted, as children now have access to mobile phones and the internet, which can lead to questions that parents, siblings, or teachers cannot explain. This is a significant drawback in building a healthy society.
Being educated
Knowledge about various tools and devices can be beneficial, as it helps in various situations. For instance, knowing how to use a mobile phone, laptop, match stick, or bulb can be helpful when travelling with others. Similarly, knowing how to fix a pipe can be helpful when someone accidentally breaks off a pipe, ensuring water flows. Therefore, good education encompasses general and specific knowledge gained through teaching or experience.
Benefits
Society is crucial for a nation’s growth and development, which in turn contributes to its social and economic progress. The education system has evolved, adapting to changing times. Benjamin Franklin’s quote, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest,” emphasises the value of education. Even if something isn’t what you’re interested in, it will benefit you in some stage of life. An educated individual has more to contribute to society than a rich person. Education shapes individuals’ characters, and social behaviours, and changes their thinking and actions. The ultimate goal of education should be action, not just knowledge. To achieve this, it’s essential to educate everyone about its importance and benefits in a constantly evolving world.
