Artist of the Month: Mila Cvorovic

In the crowded highschool hallways, you’ll find Mila Cvorovic, a talented artist in Year 11.

Her artistic journey is marked by the exploration of her IGCSE theme: sweets and drinks, which then transitions into the depth of human cravings and addictions. Her inspiration comes from a trio of accomplished artists: Kate Brinkworth, Janet Fish, and Jonathan Yeo. She’s learned the hyperrealism style, their use of vibrant colours and the way they structure their dynamic compositions, helping her infuse more life and energy into her artworks.

During Year 10, Mila looked into the theme of sweets and drinks, capturing these treats colours and sugary allures. These initial artworks are mostly focused on visual impact and capturing the realistic part of the theme. As she entered Year 11, Mila decided to change her approach towards her theme. She no longer sought to portray the sweets and drinks as they were merely, but rather to explore the deeper aspects of her theme – addiction. This shift in perspective allowed her to dive into the darker aspects of her subject matter.

Mila is a mixed media enthusiast, skillfully incorporating various mediums into her works. Her favourites, however, are graphite and pen. For Mila, art is not just a hobby, through which she finds a sense of calm and inner peace. In a world filled with chaos and uncertainties, her sketchbook brings comfort – a place where she can let her creativity flow freely. Through her art, she can express herself, translating her feelings and emotions into a visual image.

In conclusion, Mila’s journey has evolved from capturing the simple pleasures of sweets and drinks to exploring the complexities of addictions. Her flexibility and versatility with different styles and colours has allowed her to convey her message with creativity. As she continues to develop her project, we can only imagine what other pieces she will create, waiting to captivate our hearts and minds.
