An Interview With A Special NES Teacher

I was on a mission! I was determined to interview perhaps the most well-known- yet one of the busiest teachers in NES. All I had to do was track him down. I wanted to interview this specific teacher so I can know him better and you can too! Now that I have, I am happy to share it with the student body, that being you!

You are all probably wondering…who’s so interesting in NES that I would be so intrigued to interview? Let me give you some clues.

  • He is a male teacher
  • A biology teacher
  • Most importantly; he is responsible for the pastoral and performance side of the student’s school’s journey!

If you guessed Mr. Cornell, then you are right!

Everyone knows who Mr. Cornell is; if you don’t, then you are basically living under a rock. Mr. Cornell is friendly with every single student in NES and always tries to memorise all the students’ names even if they are not in his biology class. Students love talking to him. He makes school extremely fun. He shows his students that he really loves the school, the students and teaching.

These were the answers I got to my questions:

  1. What did you want to be when you were younger?

“I wanted to be a teacher from being about 15 years old.”

That shows why he is so passionate about teaching. He has always wanted to be a teacher and nothing else than that!

  1. Who is your biggest inspiration?

“I had a biology teacher, Mr. Lewis, who channeled boyish high energy into teaching younger students the wonders of biology. I was hooked.”

If I knew Mr. Lewis, I would go up to him and thank him for inspiring Mr. Cornell because without his inspiration, he might’ve not been a biology teacher and we would all miss a lot of his great work and teaching.

  1. Do you recommend any movie or book?

“I would recommend reading anything by Tess Gerritsen, (older students), and I would recommend watching anything by Sir David Attenborough.”

I am pretty sure it is a great movie since Mr. Cornell is the one who recommended it so older students, hurry! Go and watch it right now!

  1. Do you personally like pineapple on pizza?

“No, I do not.”

I was so happy with this answer because I myself don’t like pineapple on pizza. I am sorry but who eats fruits on pizza?

  1. Which countries have you visited and which one was your favorite?

“Too many to list here; my favourite, The Maldives.

I always wanted to go there! Mr. Cornell should make a trip to the Maldives and give us a tour there. Wouldn’t that be a great idea?

  1. If you had 3 wishes what would you choose?
  • “I would wish there was the availability of food and safe drinking water to all. I feel this would solve many problems we face.”

I wish that too. Everyone would be safe and healthy.

  • “I would wish that I could impart to all others the energy and effort I put into my work.”

That shouldn’t be a wish because you already pass your hard work and your positive energy everywhere in the school.

  • “I wish that people would speak to others the way they want to be spoken to.” That is an amazing wish and I totally agree with Mr. Cornell. Always treat others the way you want to be treated!

  1. If you could do absolutely anything without cost or consequences, what would you do?

“I would like to take a school trip to the rainforest. I feel this would amazing for all those who went.”

That is another great idea for a trip! We can all see great nature and wonderful animals and plants and since you are a biology teacher, it can also be an informative trip. You could tell us all the interesting facts about the animals and the plants we see.

  1. Who is one celebrity you would love to meet?

“I would love to meet  Paddy Pimblett, (an MMA fighter from Liverpool). Now, I do not really ‘like’ the physical contact of his sport, but I have to acknowledge his journey to where he is, and his message of positivity to the youth, is worthy of my respect.”

To be honest, I personally don’t know him but it looks like he gave some good energy to the people and gave good aspects to life.

  1. What is your favorite food?

“A flip of a coin between Lemon Drizzle cake and Beef stew with Yorkshire puds. Served in tandem, I am a very happy man.”

That sounds like an extremely delicious meal!

  1. How long have you been teaching?

“17, (or maybe 18), years.”

That is a long time of teaching! All your students since the day you started are so lucky to know a teacher like you.

  1. If you had the opportunity to run for president, would you?

“No, I feel I am too motivated by ‘the greater good’ to drill down into the specific issues facing a government.”

Sounds to me that Mr. Cornell loves and enjoys his life as it is without any changes to it.

  1. How long have you lived in Kuwait?

“11 years”

Close enough to the years I have lived in Kuwait! I lived in Kuwait for 14 years.

  1. Where are you from?

“Yorkshire, (the best county in England).”

If Mr. Cornell is from Yorkshire, then it is indeed the best county in England.

  1. Do you play an instrument? If yes, for how long and did you ever play in a big concert or an important event?

“I own a Saxophone, which I haven’t played for quite a while, and a guitar which Mr. Rimmer is teaching me in his CCA.”

Mr. Cornell should start playing the saxophone again. Don’t we all want to see him play again? I have seen Mr. Cornell play the guitar because I am in the club too and so far I think Mr. Cornell is doing great in playing the guitar and whoever is in the guitar club would agree with me.

And those were all the questions! Isn’t he a wonderful and amazing teacher? NES is so lucky to have a teacher like Mr. Cornell and the school does not want to lose someone like him.

I give special thanks to Mr. Cornell for spending his precious time to answer my questions just to do this article. Even though he was so busy he helped me a lot and, without him, this article wouldn’t be written.
