Two friends were walking across a desert. And as they walked, they got into an ugly argument, and out of anger, one of them slapped the other on the face. The one who was slapped was hurt but said nothing, and quietly wrote in the sand, “I am hurt because today, my friend hit me in the face.”
They resumed walking- and kept on walking until they came across an oasis. They decided to bathe in the oasis then. And while they were bathing, the one who had gotten slapped started drowning. His friend came to his rescue and saved him. When he was rescued, he wrote on a stone, “Today, I was saved by my best friend”.
Upon seeing this, his friend asked him, “Why did you write on the sand when I slapped you but engrave it into a stone when I saved you?”
At this, the slapped and saved friend looked at him and replied, “It is better that we write on sand when a friend hurts us, as it will be gone with the wind, but set it in stone when they do us good, as it will remain engraved forever.”
