Have you ever felt like getting to know someone overseas and understanding their culture better? This, without a doubt, is easily possible with the technological advancements we now have at our fingertips. However, the thrill of sending a physical, handwritten paper through post cannot be attained through the tapping of a keyboard on our electronic devices- especially due to the benefit handwritten letters allow, as they provide a great chance to improve the English skills of both ends.
In Mumbai, a charitable foundation called ‘Angel Xpress’ is running a volunteer teaching programme for over 1000 underprivileged children. These children meet up at community gardens for classes taught by local residence. Ms. Khedapa was one of the 300 who passionately volunteered to educate them.
Since we cannot help them by physically being there, Ms. Khedapa gave her Intensive English Year 9 classes the opportunity to send the children in Mumbai mail by post, helping them improve their reading and writing skills. Thus, Pen Pals were introduced to NES! And one of the greatest initiatives to get involved is, of course, having a friend across the world to share whatever you’d like with.
Fatmah Shehab in class 9.9 shared her opinions on this programme, saying, “It is a great idea because it will make them feel happy, special and cared about, which could greatly impact their lives.”
The other participants in this amazing international programme are:
Mohammad Al Duaij, Hour Al Hamar, AbdulAziz Al Mutawa, Muna Al Sabah, Jasim Al Sabt, Lojyn El Maghraby, Meryem Gurcan, Marcelo Molina Torres, Shahad Safar, Idil Sen and Fatmah Shehab.
If you too would like to partake in this wonderful programme, please contact Ms. Khedapa for further reference. You can also learn more about the programme by visiting their official website at https://angelxpress.org/.
