The new iPhones were released on the 10th of September and were shipped around the world on the 20th of September. Apple released 3 brand new iPhones: the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and Iphone Pro max.
So, what’s new on these brand new iPhones?
Firstly, each new iPhone came out with an extra camera . Last year there were three iPhones: the XR, XS, and XS Max. The XS and XS Max had two cameras while the XR had one. The iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone Pro Max now have three cameras (they are the predecessors of the XS and XS Max). The iPhone 11 now has two cameras. The XR only had one camera.
The display quality stayed the same, except the Pro models got a higher contrast ratio (2 million: one) which means it should look more sharp. Also, the Pro models are now the most water resistant phones on the market, surviving for approximately 30 minutes under 4 metres of water. The expected A13 Bionic makes it faster than the XS, and Face ID is now also faster.
For the first time ever, the Pro iPhones ship with 18 watt fast chargers. They also ship with a USB C to lightning cable. The Pro iPhones are now built in a new revolutionary way, Apple takes a block of glass and sculpts it out to make the body. Even if the back glass breaks the cameras are in a stainless steel housing. The side bands are made with surgical grade stainless steel unlike the normal model, which has side bands made out of aluminum.
IOS 13 runs smoothly on all the new iPhones and has highly anticipated features, such as dark mode. This year, Apple focused on bringing the price of the iPhone down; as a result, the normal iphone Starts at 699 USD while the Pro and Pro Max start at 999 and 1099 USD each respectively.
In this article, you might have noticed that I refer to the iPhone 11 as the “normal” iPhone; that is because Apple realised, through its sales, that people want the best package not the best features, as shown by the high sales of the iPhone XR. That is also why the flagship iPhones are marketed as the ‘Pro’ iphones .
However, must one really upgrade their phone?
If you have an Iphone X or newer, you should probably wait until next year’s phone because the 2018 and 2019 iPhones still have one of the best cameras. IOS 13 made even the iPhone 7 run smoothly so you should be ok. But if the camera is important to you, then I’d say it’s worth the upgrade. If you have an iPhone 6, 6s, 7, or 8 I would suggest switching to the XR (which now starts at 599 USD) or the iphone 11 (starts at 699 USD).
Are the new Iphones a good upgrade?
Of course, they improved on last year’s phones though they were already really good. While Apple didn’t innovate much, they did refine the previous years’ phones.
