Forget bright neon flashing lights and over-the-top banners, sometimes all you need is a colourless evening.
Sounds boring, like an old picture you find in your grandparents’ home, dull. But that was not the case, Black and White is a perfect opportunity to dress up and socialise with friends and teachers.

All day long, questions of, ‘Are you coming to black and white?’ ‘What will you wear tonight?’ ‘Do you think I will need an extra jacket?’ Wandered the school halls. I watched the clock slowly tick all day long, counting every second left until Black and White. As soon as the final bell rang, everyone went back home to get ready for the night ahead of us.
I stepped into the school playground, which had completely transformed in the span of a few hours. Sleek monochromatic look, LED lights and long tables, each decorated with white table covers and white flowers. Even the chairs were dressed in white coverings, and black and white balloons all over. However, what truly caught my eye was the photo booth, with props to spice up any boring picture. Despite the long line, the wait was worth it for all the memories captured on that single strip of photos. Lastly, an interesting touch to the night was the life-size chess set, an additional activity for the night.
The decorations were not the only memorable part of the night, as the music was what truly made the night one to remember. Not only was there music playing throughout the night on the speakers, but also live music. Our head boy, Jassem, Bishr and Samer played a series of live performances to start the magical night, each note echoed through the playground, which was now turned into a formal dinner. When it was time to feast, the large selection of food made it hard not to grab a plate. A wide range of colours in the salad section and the worldwide cuisines appealed to everyone. Even after a full plate of food, the dessert was calling to me. The large selection of cakes and traditional desserts like oum ali and knafe, there was always room for some dessert.
After the delectable dinner, a band started to play. Arabella, Hanna and Christina captured the crowd with their musical skills. By the end of their performance, the awards for best dressed were ready to be announced. Everyone is eager to hear the winners, hoping it will be them or their friends. The winners of year 11 were Farah and Murtaza, and sixth form were Ziad and Laura; they deservedly won for their fantastic outfits of the night.

Overall, the night was one filled with memories worth cherishing for life. Events like Black and white is what makes our final year together valuable, creating stories to tell each other in ten years or to simply look back on as these days are our last days as teenagers together. Black and white is a chance to dress up in school and express oneself. For those anxiously waiting for their Black and white dinner in the future, be ready to be blown away.
