How was Banana Bread Made?
Have you ever wondered how we made banana bread? No, we didn’t put a banana between two pieces of bread – though that would be hilarious to find out. Actually, the dessert has a deep history behind it . From the great depression to modern homes it has had quite an impact. Who wouldn’t like to know where banana bread comes from?
Banana bread is a treat enjoyed around the world. It’s simple to make, delicious to eat, and has a history that makes it even more interesting.
Origin of Banana Bread:
Banana bread was created in the U.S in the 1930s. While bananas come from regions like Southeast Asia, baking them into bread recipes started in American houses (only Americans can do such ambitious things). It saw a rise in popularity during the Great Depression, when people wanted to make the most of the food they had. The main reason banana bread was invented was to not waste overripe bananas. Overripe bananas were often too soft, so people started mashing them and mixing them into bread recipes. Around that time, baking powder and baking soda were new to Americans, which made “quick breads” like banana bread easy to bake without yeast.
Ingredients &How to make one:
The ingredients of banana bread include:
- 2 or 4 Mashed bananas
- 1 ½ cups of Flour
- 1 cup of Sugar
- 1 cup of Milk
- 2 large Eggs
- ½ cup of melted Butter
- 1 teaspoon of Baking soda
- ½ teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 cup of Yogurt / Sour cream
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
You first put the dry ingredients like flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda into a bowl(I recommend putting it in a large bowl). Then, what you want to do next is put the wet ingredients in another bowl, like eggs, butter, yogurt, and the mashed bananas. Next is putting all the ingredients in the dry bowl and mixing until thick and bright yellow. Now oil your pan and put your batter into the pan and set your oven to 350°F or 175°C and wait for an hour. After waiting for it to cool down, and boom, you have banana bread!
