The BSME Music Festival is an annual Music Festival that takes place in November. Many schools in Kuwait and even some schools over sea in the gulf, participate. This year there are 328 students participating (this has been the average number for many years), an incredible 120 of whom are from NES. Our school has been participating for roughly 2 decades.
Mr Price, who has been organising the festival for 11 years, says “It’s a lot of fun to see everyone get together to make music, and it’s great because it gives everyone a chance to make music with new friends, and play and sing in bigger ensembles”. He also says that they have a lot of enthusiasm and they freely give up their time for music, which makes him proud to say that every section in the orchestra: woodwind, strings, brass, and percussion, has students from NES participating.
Jessica Megally, a year 7 student, who is participating in cello and is joining for the second time, tells us “This is a great event because it gathers many musicians from different countries and schools, it gathers talent, increases the ability to work together as a group and community”. Jessica recommends this to others and insists that if you’re out there and play an instrument, are part of a choir or if you are a musician of any sort then sign up! It is loads of fun, and is a great opportunity to meet people who have the same or similar interests to you and make more friends.
This fun social event is one that helps you to make new friends, connect with old ones and make music together as a community and as a whole. This develops core skills not learnt in a classroom, but by experience and events; you learn to overcome any sort of fear of performing, you communicate in special ways that no one else can experience. Students from NES are very fortunate to get to participate in the festival.
