When people think about Nike, I’ve seen that they often think about it as a brand that was already a guaranteed success but that was not the case. The founder of Nike, Phil Knight, was from Oregon and who went to multiple places to study beautiful subjects, his heart wanted more. He loved track and running and he had studied business for two weeks at Stanford but his love for sports was quite unique. Having enrolled in the war and going to college, being a smart man and a star runner, he didn’t understand what to do next. Little did he know that his next idea was going to become one of the biggest and greatest companies of all time.
He thought maybe if he wanted to know what to do he needed to see the world and the people living in their own countries and what made each country unique in their own way, so he took his close friend from Stanford, Carl, and they set for Hawaii first where they lived off the enjoyment from surfing and they money they were paid to finish their jobs. They were door to door salesmen selling encyclopaedias; it was a night job so during the daytime they lived with the locals surfing and having fun.
His next stop, Japan, was where he went alone with a heart full of dreams. Knight got his chance to make shoes with a company and to sell them in the USA. His idea was a hit and today he has motivated and inspired countless athletes through his work and his company which then became the most successful shoe brand in history.
