Pinktober at New English School in Kuwait.
During October, the Social Committee sells breast cancer ribbon badges to raise money for hospitals and people in need. This year we raised a lot more money than in previous years, which is awesome. I interviewed a student, Yousif Alsabah; he was extremely happy with how the school has made so much progress. Seeing how much we continue to improve and succeed each year is amazing. He mentioned how important it is for our school community to support each other and how much good we collectively do together. Seeing how we can accomplish many things as a team is motivational. I believe that it’s great to see how much of a difference we can make for such an important cause.
What is the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness, and why do we raise awareness about it?
We hold Breast Cancer Awareness Month because of the millions of people who have been affected. We try our hardest to help and support the 53.5 million people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Sadly, 670,000 people around the world have passed away due to this form of cancer, however more than 4 million people on Earth survived. So that’s why at NES we encourage the support for people with breast cancer and all types of sicknesses.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we all wear pink, sell badges, make awareness posters, and our house captains decorate the house boards. In addition to all that, we also share useful information to make sure everyone knows how to spot the signs, stay healthy, and support those battling cancer. Our goal is to create a supportive and informed environment where everyone can join the fight against cancer.
It is a tradition at NES to have ‘Pink Day’ on the last day of half term. During this day, we all wear pink, donate to charity, and raise awareness for the cause.
