‘GUTS’ is Olivia Rodrigo’s (Famous popstar, songwriter,and singer of songs like Drivers License, Deja Vu, Brutal, Good 4 You) newest- and second album.
GUTS was released a little over a month ago on September 8th, making fans go wild and extremely enlivened to listen to the new songs produced by said singer, Olivia Rodrigo. Earlier this year, Olivia also teased 2 songs; ‘Vampire’ and ‘Bad Idea, Right?’ to give fans a sense of what the album would be like.
The album consists of 12 songs. Some say the whole album is unskippable and that they would listen to every song in it, others not so much- I do enjoy the whole album and would willingly listen to it on repeat, unlike some people I know who would skip certain songs, or just genuinely dislike the album and would skip it as a whole.
I personally favoured ‘Lacy’ because it was sweet and melodic; ‘Lacy’ was one of the more calmer and sensitive songs that I could listen to honestly anywhere, whether it be on a walk, a long car ride or the beach. In my opinion, it knows how to set the mood, it’s also quite catchy, making it seem like it was ‘drilled’ into my head.
An underrated song, in my opinion, is ‘Logical’- not many are aware of it, considering most people know about today’s songs by social media, it’s not played all that much on any apps. It’s about having an unhealthy relationship with someone- anyone- being so bewitched by it that you are ‘blinded’ from all the flaws they possess, and when you do acknowledge them, you hope that they can change for the better even when it is not possible.
An overrated song in my opinion is ‘bad idea, right?’. It doesn’t hold much meaning to it and I’m honestly not a big fan. It’s not all that catchy and doesn’t really ‘attract’ me, you can say in a way- but it’s still written nicely and has somewhat of a good flow to it- every now and then I do listen to it, and some parts are playing on loop in my head but it’s not one of my favourites- I think Olivia has written better ones.
I think GUTS deserves all the hype it’s getting, it is quite a change from Olivia’s previous album ‘SOUR’. It’s more mature and has a little bit of punk. You can listen to this album when you’re angry , sad or even happy- it’s adjustable to any emotion one feels; that is something hard to achieve. Making an album fit for any age whether you’re 12 or 22, Olivia knows how to get you ‘tranced’ into her songs. Her voice lures you in and the lyrics find a way to make you relate to them; sneaking into your mind and living there rent-free for a while before another one of her songs captures you, and the process repeats all over again.
