Extremities is a podcast hosted by American-Scottish YouTuber Sam Denby (most known for Wendover Productions and Half as Interesting). It’s about harsh places that still somehow house societies. In this article, we’ll only be looking at season one which is about the island of Pitcairn.
The season is 6 episodes long, with each episode being 24-28 minutes, each episode focuses on different aspects of Pitcairn.
- Arrival on Pitcairn
This episode serves as an introductory episode of not only Pitcairn, but the podcast itself (as is expected with this being the debut of the series).
2. Pitcairn’s Beginning, Boat and Bureaucracy
This episode is about the history of Pitcairn, the ship that discovered the land, and the mutiny that took place onboard.
3. Pitcairn’s Tiny Tourist Economy
This episode talks about the economy of Pitcairn which, as you can guess from the title, includes tourism.
4. How Pitcairn Works
This episode is about how everything functions on Pitcairn, from healthcare to the internet.
5. Justice on Pitcairn
This episode focuses on the infamous scandal which took place on Pitcairn islands regarding younger females and the upper class of people.
6. Pitcairn’s End
This episode is about what the future may hold for the island and what its potential downfall may be.
This season includes samples from chats Sam has had with people on the island, including somebody who was on the island when interviewed; they give insight into how life is like for people on the island.
Extremities is honestly one of (if not my top) favorite podcast(s) of all time. Sam’s voice is relaxing to listen to, so I like having it as background noise while I do other things. In fact I’ve been listening to season 2 as I wrote this very article! If that doesn’t show how much I love listening to Extremities, I don’t know what does.
If you like learning about remote places and the hardships people living there go through, I can’t recommend Extremities enough!
