Speech day is an amazing event full of celebration and accomplishment…
So, what is speech day all about? You might ask yourself.
Well, here is the answer!
Speech day is an honoured day held annually in NES. Prizewinners are students who have proven themselves to be outstanding in a particular subject (like, for example, by getting rank 1 in an exam) per year group. This is not a set rule, however, as teachers keep track of student progress throughout the year and can give the prize to especially hard-working students who have been consistent in their efforts. Winners are awarded a certificate and an envelope with 10 KD. This year, speech day was on the 8th of November with the special guest being his excellency, the British Ambassador to the State of Kuwait, Mr. Michael Davenport. After the event, everyone was invited to head to the Dar El Sid art gallery for a look at the brilliant artwork being created at NES.
Speech day is celebrating a student’s success and making the student feel proud that they have accomplished something big and good, and that all their hard work is worth it. While they walk to the stage to collect their certificates, they feel amazing while hundreds of people clap, their parents being the loudest- with their phone cameras clicking away like those of the paparazzi. It is an exceptional feeling- making your parents proud of you and making them happy. They work extremely hard, day and night, to get us an amazing education in one of Kuwait’s top schools. Repaying them at an event like this is a good reminder that their efforts really are paying off.
Every student in NES should be aiming for an award because if someone your age got it, then so can you! Once you put your mind to it, you can earn good grades; all it needs is a bit of effort, hard work and determination.
I hope everyone knows now what is speech day and I hope you are working diligently to receive an award next year. It’s now your role to work hard to aim for grades that aren’t just “good”- but amazing grades that will shock both you and your parents! Don’t forget that you can do it. All you need to do is to work hard and do your best.

Who would you thank the most for taking your award?
I would like to thank Ms Arrabi for helping me study for physics, which is the subject I earned my award for. I have the fortune to have her as my teacher again this year, and I am so grateful for that.

Hopefully, but I don’t want to jinx it
What did you do in order to get this award?
I studied really hard for this subject for mid-years in December and end of years in May, always listened in class and studied before every lesson.
