NESMUN Conference 2017

The Model United Nations, a simulation of the highly esteemed UN. Within this program we see personal development as students come together to discuss pressing matters that affect us on a global scale.

This year’s Internal Conference was by far the greatest and largest the school has ever seen. With 5 commissions and over 100 delegates attending the conference, the expectations were sky high and the MUN leadership team went above and beyond the expectations to ensure the conference was a successful one filled with fruitful debates and vigorous crisis situations. To fulfil the expectations at hand the leadership team had to make thoughtful and precise decisions as to which topics to debate.

The Secretary-General of the program Arjun Issar said “ The MUN leadership team were sick of debating the same old topics over and over again, personally conferences has become somewhat monotonous and I wanted to use my role as Secretary-General of the program to ensure this year’s NESMUN was a truly unique, new and exciting experience for all those involved whether this was their first or fifth conference, as a result we compiled a roster of contentious and  current topics that were unfolding as the delegates spoke. Catalonia, The Qatar situation and the Rohingya Muslims crisis in Myanmar were just some of the contentious heated topics the delegates were debating. However my DSGs and I were not simply satisfied with this we had made it our mission to go above and beyond and truly make this an unforgettable experience and thus, halfway through the debates we pulled the delegates of the Arab League and Security Council into the crisis room and flipped everything they had researched and forced t

hem to think on their feet, the delegates of Security Council were horrified when a news report detailing how North Korea has invaded South Korea was played to them, and they were thrown

back into to their commissions to find a solution to this pressing world matter as soon as humanly possible. There are so many things I look upon favourably about the conference but we do not have space nor the time for me to recount them accurately enough to do them justice. What I can say, though, is that NESMUN was truly a thrilling rollercoaster of emotions that differentiated every conference that delegates have and will attend.”

Overall, the conference was filled with intense debates and showed delegates true skill when faced with critical moments where humanity would need them most.

After a long, productive, successful day the delegates were treated to a lovely banquet of pizza. As the delegates socialised amongst themselves, the Executive Team and Chairs were hard at work picking delegates for prestigious awards such as Delegate of the Conference.

After the pleasant and well-deserved break, we enjoyed a pleasant and sweet closing ceremony. Filled with inspiring speeches and kind farewells. As the conference came to a close we awarded certain delegates their well-deserved awards.
