Poetry: Callous Cruelty

Poetry: Callous Cruelty

Callous they are,
As desensitized to human empathy
As an un-loyal soldier tortured by the enemy,
Unrequited friendship,
Relinquished – once a necessity – has dissipated.
Callous they are,
Caution un be-known,
So innocent yet so cunning.
Cruel they are,
Reveling in cantankerous degradation,
Innate yet misfired upon all.
Callous they are,
Unrequited in kinsmanship,
Hollow and superficial.
Callous they are cruel,
Insecurity triumphed by turmoil of the Id,
Callous, though they are fragile
