Tareq Rajab Docents’ Programme

Personal Growth and Potential: These are the two core ideas that the Tareq Rajab Docent Programme is all about.

What was once but a seedling, has now borne fruit. Thanks to the efforts of Kevin Mathew and his team last year, this programme has established itself firmly in the essence of what NES represents. Words on a screen simply cannot do it justice.

Last year, the programme took a handful of very select students. A journey of arduous training ensued, with only the best performing in front of embassy ambassadors – but more on that later! They went from having no semblance of public speaking skills, let alone a concrete knowledge of the history of our world, to having become fully fledged docents.

By the start of 2017, each docent was well versed in specific eras of human history. Each docent could confidently convey their ideas and thoughts. Last year, the programme held an event, that consisted of fourteen diplomatic ambassadors and teachers from NES. All the training, the hard work, and dedication led to this one event. It was a massive success. Bold and proud, our docents represented the programme and NES with utmost ability, furthering the reputation the school is so well known for.

As with any endeavour, there is the potential to rise to new challenges, with new opportunities waiting to be realised. For the upcoming year, the programme will entail a visit to another museum: The Islamic Museum of Calligraphy, which stands erect, with beautiful and intricately detailed architecture, in front of our school. New projects await, with more opportunities to take advantage of and skills to be learned. The future is certainly bright.

I’d like to think of this programme as a family – a closely knit one. Last year’s docents have been promoted to Senior Docents – myself being Deputy Head. Taught by us, our upcoming docents will proudly represent our school on a far grander scale. If you have what it takes, and are not yet an upper school student, stay attentive, for when the opportunity arises, we’ll come calling!
